Title: Collaborative interaction and multimodality for medical training in virtual reality
Abstract
Recent guidelines from the French National Authority for Health (Haute Autorité de Santé) have led to changes in traditional educational approaches in medicine. A concrete example of this evolution is the use of virtual reality simulation. However, current tools focus mainly on individual training, neglecting collaborative interactions between trainers and learners. To address this issue, our proposal is to design collaborative interfaces using a multimodal approach to facilitate communication during skill transfer interactions. We focus specifically on training operators in loco regional anesthesia and adopt a user-centered approach. The first phase involves field studies to define a model of interaction between trainers and learners. This model will serve as a basis for designing training environments and multimodal interaction techniques, enabling teachers to train learners in shared virtual environments. Finally, experimental studies have been carried out to evaluate the proposed interaction techniques and training environments.
